Unit 9

Christmas Project Part 1:

When we started coming up with ideas Michael came up with the idea of doing something like Black Mirror (basically time travel). So in groups we came up with ideas of things that would time travelled to. Harry wanted to the Christmas special of EastEnders. I came up with the football match in WW1, an evil Santa, the birth of Jesus and Band Aid. Daniella was the person writing these ideas down, so when she moved to another group it meant our ideas had left as well so I had to join Taylor's group.

Taylor had come up with the concept that these 5 kids who live in a time where Christmas is banned went back in time to several points in time which included: the birth of Jesus, Victorian times, WW1 football match and the modern day where one of the kids die. He wanted to have it that each era they take an item: gold from the birth of Jesus, Christmas pudding from Victorian times and the ball from the football match. When we came up to start rehearsing it, we decided that the kids found a book in an abandoned school, and when they turn a page in the book, they time travel to the time and place that page if referring to.

So we started rehearsing it, and because of our group size we only had 3 kids. My character Charlie was very sceptical of being in this abandoned school because he reveals you can be shot for being there. Chloe's character found the book, and they opened it to find the first page talking about the birth of Jesus. When they look up they find themselves in the exact same place as the picture. They argue about whether or not they are in the book with Taylor's character refusing to believe it and saying it is holograms.

A shepherd comes up to them and asks them "Are you here to see him?", to which my character replies "Who?". The shepherd says "The son of God of course" to which he then leads us to Mary and the baby. I came up with the idea that Taylor's character says "Jesus Christ" in shock at seeing the baby and Mary says "That's it, that's the perfect name."

We made the final decision to change the amount of kids from 5 to 3, and add the concept that we influenced history: we named Jesus, we gave Charles Dickens the idea for Christmas Carol and we start the football match in WW1. We then decided to add 2020 as a time they go back to where they meet the Queen minutes before she goes to do her traditional Christmas speech, and they tell her about their travels. The Queen thinks that it is an outrage since she thinks that Christmas is just a lie that three kids had come up with. Therefore in her speech she bans Christmas.

The kids go make to their time- 2300- and go to destroy the decree that says Christmas is banned. When they get there they see their names on it as the reason for the ban. All of a sudden soldiers come to arrest them, but Charlie who had been stealing items from history for personal gain, charged at the soldiers holding the decree as a shield as they shoot at him. At the same time the other turn the page and are back at the school. Charlie also is with them but he is dead and the other two mourn for him.

Only then do they realise that the school they are in is the exact same one as before, and is the exact same time as when they left, however the school isn't abandoned, and has festive decorations.
